Budget 2012: Signal of early polls

Unknown | 10:00 PM | | | Best Blogger Tips

Many of the goodies in Budget 2012 are targeted at BN’s vote bank.
KUALA LUMPUR: Budget 2012 signals Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak’s preparation for early polls, with much of the handouts targeted at retaining Barisan Nasional’s traditional vote bank.
Many of the allocations are targeted at key constituents such as the civil service and Bumiputera voters. These form BN’s core power base. But the budget also contains provisions obviously meant to widen support among the lower-income group and the country’s youth.
The announcement of a half-a-month’s bonus payouts, raising the civil service retirement age from 58 to 60 years and RM500 cash handouts to public service pensioners were clear indicators of the significance of civil service support in maintaining a BN government.

And he did not deny it, putting it down to the cough mixture he had been taking.

Chinese Malaysians must read - Get lost, MCA! I want to vote for PAS

Unknown | 2:29 AM | | | | | | Best Blogger Tips

It has become the tradition for MCA to use hudud to attack Pakatan Rakyat especially now when we are in the last lap to the 13th general election. Hudud is of course the part of the Islamic criminal law that pertains to 6 specific punishments that includes amputation of limbs, whipping and stoning to death.
But this time around, the shocking thing is how the Chinese community reacted in the scocial media network. No one rushed to condemn hudud, no one took pity on the MCA. On the contrary, they attacked MCA with gusto, hurling foul words at its political hypocrisy and cheating ways.
It is not surprising then that MCA vice president Gan Ping Sieu has quietly dropped his debate challenge to Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng over the hudud issue.

Finally, Mahathir vs Najib

Unknown | 1:08 AM | | Best Blogger Tips

Mahathir Mohamad is not a man to sit quietly in the wings when something pricks his interest. Upon retiring in 2003, Mahathir did remain in the shadows, quietly stocking his personal book library and even opening a bakery in Langkawi. But it wasn't long before he jumped in again and as usual, he chose the deep end of the pool.
His luckless opponent was none other than Abdullah Badawi, his chosen successor. But cordial though their relationship had been, when Badawi began dismantling several of Mahathir's high profile projects, the older man didn't like it and made it known that he wasn't happy anymore. But dismantling the projects was not enough for the Abdullah, who was then keen to polish his reformist badge. Badawi did the unthinkable, he even released Mahathir's arch enemy, Anwar Ibrahim, whom Mahathir had taken great pains to put in jail. Then the final icing on the cake, Badawi charged Mahathir’s long time friend, Eric Chia, for criminal breach of trust.

Oral sex virus may surpass smoking as cause of throat cancer

Unknown | 12:43 AM | | | | Best Blogger Tips

NEW YORK - Cancer of the back of the mouth and throat is on the rise, primarily because of the spread of a viral infection called human papillomavirus (HPV), researchers report in a new study.

Dr Maura Gillison at the Ohio State University and her colleagues studied throat tumour samples collected over a 20-year period and found that the number of people who were diagnosed with HPV-linked oral cancer in 2004 tripled the number in 1988, surging to 72 per cent from about 16 per cent.

The type of throat cancer they examined, called oropharyngeal, originates in the back of the tongue, the soft part of the roof of the mouth, the tonsils, or the sides of the throat.

'Topless' car wash creates controversy

Unknown | 6:08 AM | | | | Best Blogger Tips

It was an advertisement designed to grab attention, but it has raised plenty of eyebrows in the process.
The Miss Wagga Quest in Australia's New South Wales has advertised a ''topless'' car wash this Saturday as part of its fund-raising programme.
But the word topless isn't what it seems.
"It means the girls won't actually wash the tops of the cars, they will only wash from the windows down," Miss Wagga Quest Committee chairperson Amanda Gleeson said.
