AdilanClub:Breaking news, is the best for news

Prime Minister Najib Razak and his Umno-BN coalition have been accused of offering as much as RM160 million to lure 8 Opposition lawmakers to leave their parties and become Independent Members of Parliament.

Such a move was aimed at discrediting Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim, who is the PKR adviser and widely regarded as the glue that binds the tripartite coalition together.

"There was an attempt to lure eight Parti Keadilan Rakyat MPs as a package. The offer began with RM10 million a person, but after negotiations it was raised to RM20million," Tanah Merah MP Amran Abdul Ghani told a press conference on Thursday.

Amran, who was among the 8 offered money to jump ship, said they were told they would be paid only when all 8 left PKR. He was also told RM10 million would be used to buy a warehouse in Kuala Lumpur which would be rented out to provide him with pension income.

"I was told among other things that I was being used by my party, and that when the next elections came by, there would be a rush for seats and I wouldn't get one," said Amran.

"The offer was attractive at the time as we did not have to enter Barisan Nasional but be government-friendly independent MPs."

Long process with many meetings and a contract to sign

Another PKR lawmaker, Kelana Jaya MP Loh Gwo-Burne, who was also present, admitted that some did take up the offer.

"It was a long process and I attended several of the meetings. We were offered a contract to sign," said Kelana Jaya MP Loh Gwo-Burne, who was among the eight.

"The offer on the table was RM5 million. The MPs, assemblymen and even councilors of Pakatan Rakyat are service oriented. We serve the people and we are not so easily compromised."

Video recordings

PAS MP for Shah Alam who co-ordinated the expose' said at least 4 attempts were made to entice the PKR MPs.

Khalid warned Umno-BN that should they try to deny enticing the PKR lawmakers, he had video recordings to back up the revelations and would not hesitate to screen them.

Apart from Amran and Gwo-Burne, there was also an attempt to pay Indera Mahkota assemblyman Azan Ismail RM5 million to leave PKR.

Azan told the press conference he was contacted by an individual from Kedah named Zamil, but he did not entertain the invitation because he did not take it seriously.
