An Indonesian politician dumped his teenage wife, just four days after they were married, because "she didn't bleed" when they had sex on the first night.

"I felt that she was not a virgin because no blood came out," Aceng Fikri, the Garut District Chief in West Java province, told reporters, adding that he wanted to marry a woman who's "beautiful on the outside and on the inside".

The 40-year-old politician lamented that he slept with Fani Oktora, whom he took as his second wife, only once after spending Rp250 million (RM80 million) on their wedding ceremony on 14th July this year.

Protestors dramatise Aceng towing Fani in a march to the Garut district office to demand his dismissal after he divorced his teen wife via text message days after they married, saying she lied about her virginity.

"Even sleeping with an artiste doesn't cost that much," Aceng complained. "After I bought her, I found out that she was 'not as advertised', so I returned her."

His act sparked a public outcry as protestors comprising students and women's rights activists gathered outside the Garut Legislative Council (DPRD) office to demand his resignation.

Even President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono expressed concern over Aceng's actions, while Home Minister Gamawan Fauzi ordered his subordinate, West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan, to reprimand the District Chief.

Fani, 18, received a text message from her husband on her mobile phone, informing that he was divorcing her after only four days of being married. Last week, she reported him to the police for "psychological abuse".

She said she agreed to become Aceng's wife after he promised to pay for her college tuition and take her on a religious pilgrimage to Mecca. Aceng told reporters he didn't understand what the fuss was all about.

"I consider this a family matter," he said, adding that he had given Fani money following their divorce. Their marriage was not registered with the Religious Affairs Ministry because Aceng is still married to his first wife and they have three children together.

"If what I did was wrong, even though it was allowed by Islamic law, then I apologise to my family and my ex-wife," he said.

Meanwhile, DPRD has formed a committee comprising 17 of the 50 legislators to decide on Aceng's future. The committee had 14 days since last week to gather all evidence regarding the unofficial wedding.
