Constable booked for raping minor

A girl was allegedly raped by a constable in Saanghi village, about 12 km from Rohtak.

ROHTAK: A girl was allegedly raped by a constable in Saanghi village, about 12 km from here, police said on Saturday.

A case has been registered against the constable Ravinder, who is absconding, after the victims' parents placed the matter before a meeting of the district child welfare committee, which was chaired by deputy commissioner Vikas Gupta.

According to the complaint lodged by the girl's parents, Ravinder took the minor girl to an unidentified place on January 27, where he raped her repeatedly.

He left her near Ghilaur police post the next day, threatening her with dire consequence if she informed the police about him.

On reaching home, the girl narrated the incident to her parents.

"The case is being investigated from various angles. Police teams have been carrying out raids to nab the accused who is absconding since after the incident," police said.

The girl was shifted to a shelter home here after her medical examination was conducted at PGIMS, they said.

A woman who headed what was described as China's biggest prostitution ring wept and said her life was ruined after being jailed for 14 years in Beijing Friday.

The 28-year-old, surnamed Du, was found guilty at the Fengtai District People's Court of recruiting dozens of prostitutes, including teenagers and foreigners, between 2007 and 2010.

Her husband and fellow ringleader, a 43-year-old surnamed Cui, was jailed for 13 years.

The couple were also each fined 100,000 Yuan (RM48,107), the Legal Evening Newsreported.

Some 65 accomplices were also found guilty for their roles in the business, which the newspaper described the biggest prostitution ring uncovered in China.

True to his promise, PKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli has dropped the latest bombshell on the RM250 million NFC financial debacle. Two more more super-luxury condos in Singapore's Marina Bay - nearby to the casino and costing RM17 million ach - were bought by Umno minister Shahrizat Jalil's family, according to the PKR leader.

Rafizi also revealed another disturbing trend. He believes that Shahrizat's husband Salleh Ismail, also the NFC chairman, and Wan Shahinur Izran, her son and NFC director, had bought the units using the government-controlled NFC cattle breeding project as carrots to get approval.

“We believe the loans were approved because they control funds of RM250 million, which is lucrative for any bank. Any bank would want RM250 million. They put [the RM250 million] in banks to leverage financing for personal purchases. This is a purchase that must be investigated by police,” Rafizi was reported as telling the press on Wednesday.

The Workers' Party (WP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Hougang, Mr Yaw Shin Leong, has resigned from his party's leadership.

This was announced in a statement by WP last night after the monthly meeting of its executive council earlier that day. The statement said that Mr Yaw, 35, will now focus on his responsibilities as MP for his constituency.

Mr Yaw will cease to be WP's treasurer with immediate effect. He will be replaced by Non-Constituency MP Yee Jenn Jong, the current deputy treasurer. Mr Yaw will remain a member of the WP.

Shen Ziming, the presiding judge of the case from the High People's Court of East China's Zhejiang province, told China News Service that the court endorsed the previous judgment after finding the defendant illegally raised up to 770 million yuan (US$122 million) from 11 lenders with the promise of high returns from 2005 to 2007, and hence should be "severely punished" for the apparent Ponzi-like scheme, as she has "brought huge losses to the nation and people with her serious crimes".

Shen said Wu concealed her debt to lenders and pretended to be financially powerful by "showing off jewelry and registering nominal companies".

Banda Aceh. Ulema in Aceh have warned Muslims, the younger generation in particular, that observing Valentine’s Day is not allowed in Islam and against Shariah law that is in force in all of Aceh province.

“It is haram for Muslims to observe Valentine’s Day because it does not accord with Islamic Shariah” Tgk Feisal, general secretary of the Aceh Ulema Association (HUDA), said on Monday.

Stockholm. Twins born in Indonesia and put up separately for adoption, have been reunited after finding each other living just 40 kilometers apart, in southern Sweden, three decades later.

Non-identical twins Emilie Falk and Lin Backman — strangers until last year — were separated nearly 29 years ago.

According to a DNA test the pair had done two months after reuniting in January last year, and which they shared with AFP, there is a 99.98 percent chance of them being sisters.

A complex string of events led up to that revelation.

Both were adopted from an orphanage in Semarang, Central Java, by Swedish couples, but there was no mention in either of their documents of the fact that they had a twin.

4 hospitalised after taking illegal sex drugs

SINGAPORE - The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) is alerting the public on a series of serious adverse events related to the consumption of illegal sexual enhancement health products.

HSA said over the past week, four patients between the ages of 30 to 78 years old have been admitted to hospitals with dangerously low blood sugar levels.

Two of them were unconscious upon arrival at the hospitals and the other two were confused and weak, HSA said.

Man triggers explosion after tossing firecracker into sewer

CHINA - A video of a man tossing a lit firecracker down a manhole and triggering an explosion has been making its rounds on the Internet.

According to Chinese news media, the incident occurred in a part of Hunan province on Jan 29.

Firecrackers are commonly found in China and are used to celebrate the lunar new year.

In the clip, the man is shown lighting a firecracker and bending over the manhole. Almost immediately, an explosion occurs, throwing him and two other boys who were with him, off their feet.

According to a Chinese media report, the manhole cover was blown at least 10 metres into the air. The boys were unharmed and fled after the explosion occurred.

The man appeared to be injured as the manhole cover was reported to have struck his arm.

He is shown lying on the ground as bystanders crowd around him.

A netizen who submitted the video to Singapore citizen journalism site, Stomp, says the explosion probably occurred because of the buildup of highly flammable gas in the sewer.

A survey released yesterday shows that people who have used the social networking site over a long period since its founding in 2004 show no sign that they had tired of posting pictures, updating weekend plans or just relaying random thoughts.

The Pew Research Center report, based on a US phone survey, logs and data from Nov 2010, shed light on Facebook’s possible long-term popularity as the company founded by Mark Zuckerberg heads for a US$5 billion initial public offering.

Ahead of the IPO, one concern about Facebook has been that users will simply bore of it after a while, a phenomenon known as ‘Facebook fatigue’. The Pew research suggests those worries may be unfounded.

PUCHONG: A high speed car chase turned ugly yesterday evening when a Proton Perdana, being trailed by two police patrol cars, rammed into a food stall at Taman Kinrara, injuring two people.

It is believed the injured were the stall owner and a patron. Both men have been sent to the clinic for treatment and reported to be in a stable condition.

One of the two suspects in the car was arrested after a short chase while his accomplice, believed to be armed with a knife, was still at large.

At 10.30pm, The Malay Mail learnt police had deployed the help of the K9 Unit to search for the suspect.
